Münchhausen syndrome is a rare mental disorder in which patients provoke symptoms of somatic or mental illness in themselves in order to assume the role
of a patient. There is no known exact cause of the disease, but it is believed that in the pathogenesis of the disorder both somatic and mental factors are involved. Diagnosis is based on a careful interview and observation, and on the cooperation of specialists from many fields of medicine. Treatment of Münchhausen syndrome poses many difficulties and is usually associated with poor prognosis for successful treatment. We report a case of a 27-year-old patient with predominant abdominal Münchhausen syndrome associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms.
