Celiac disease defined as a permanent intolerance to gluten is one of the most common diseases of the digestive tract. In recent years, a change in the clinical course of celiac disease is observed, with the upward trend of atypical clinical presentation, and a higher incidence of celiac disease in adults compared with children. Because of the varied clinical presentation many cases of celiac disease remain undiagnosed. The paper presents the clinical picture, new patterns of diagnosis and treatment strategies in patients with celiac disease.
