Prevalence of severe asthma accounts for 5-10% of all asthma cases. In a proportion of patients even intensive treatment do not result in the improvement of symptom control. Some patients require periodical oral administration of gluccocorticosteroids, however in every individual case the possibility of adverse events should be taken into consideration. Moreover in every patient all potential co-morbidities and factors deteriorating asthma should be analyzed.
