The present text is a reflection on communication between doctor and patient. It focuses on the role of communication in treatment effectiveness and in achieving satisfactory therapeutic results. I emphasize the importance of such non-medical aspects, as cognition, trust, and active listening; although considered of secondary importance, they constitute an essential aspect of therapy, and significantly contribute to the final result of the treatment process. I draw attention to three types of communication approach: compliance, adherence and concordance. Since these are ways of communication between doctor and patient, I suggest their unification into an integrated whole. Such integrated approach is likely to augment treatment effects, as patients can be more inclined to follow medical recommendations.
