Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disease resulting from neuronal degeneration in the cerebral cortex, spinal cord, and brainstem. The aim of this study was to present the nursing problems experienced by a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and to construct a nursing process based on the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP). The subject of the study was a 52-year-old woman with quadriplegia, dysarthria, and dysphagia. A case study approach was used. The care process was based on a nursing interview, observation, medical record analysis, measurement of basic vital signs, and clinical scales: the ADL scale (Katz), ALSFRS-R, Norton, Lovett, Ashworth, and NRS 2002. The patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis presented seven main nursing problems, mainly quadriplegia, communication difficulties, and eating problems. Nursing care is essential in providing comprehensive support for patients and families. Empathy and professionalism are crucial in caring for individuals with a progressive, incurable disease.
