Infective endocarditis is one of the dangerous, often lethal heart diseases. The diagnosis of endocarditis is thought to be one of the most difficult in medicine. The disease can imitate the other illnesses, such as: neoplasm, autoimmunological disease, sepsis and other heart diseases. The complications occurrence – stroke, heart failure or cardiac infarct – often really suggest the suspicion of infective endocarditis. The disease can often lead to very threatening complications and without target therapy often leads to death. The heart failure and embolism are the most often cause of death in the course of infective endocarditis. The treatment selection depends on the etiology, and the duration of the therapy depends on clinical character and the course of disease.
