Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common benign diseases in men, and can lead to prostatic enlargement, obstruction and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The aetiology is multifactorial, with age, PSA and prostate volume being important factors related to development of the disease. The paper presents aetiopathogenesis of BPH, recommended procedures of diagnosis and current medical and surgical therapy options.
