In women there is a high risk of bleeding and access site complications after they have undergone PCI. In this article some current results regarding this problem are presented. Despite of progress in the last decade both in the field of technical issues (common use of stents, use of drug eluting stents, decreased size of sheats) and in periprocedural pharmacotherapy, the risk of hemorrhagic complications in women is twice as high than in men. The main risk factors of bleeding complications and the algorythms helping to assess them before the procedure as well as the results of new studies in which bleeding avoiding strategies were used (vascular closure devices, bivalirudine or radial access) are also reported.
