Function of vital solid organs is combined, therefore sudden of chronic dysfunction of one of them causes deterioration of the other one. This phenomenon is one of the underlying mechanisms of multiorgan failure in critical patients. Sudden and clinically relevant dysfunction of liver or kidneys initiates change in vascular tone, which de-creases renal blood flow and as a consequence – causes acute renal injury. Some cases are reversible and appropriate managing is based on recognition of the underlying mechanisms.
