In diabetes type 2 atherogenic dyslipidaemia is 2-3 times more frequent than in the general population. Atherogenic dyslipidaemia includes: high level of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, low level of HDL cholesterol. Early diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidaemia play an important role in protection against cardiovascular diseases. Treatment is combined with non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods. Non-pharmacological treatment includes diet and physical activity. In pharmacological treatment the main role is played by statins, which decrease LDL cholesterol. A second important group is fibrates, which decrease triglycerides and increase HDL cholesterol.
