Side and adverse effects of hypolipidemic agents

Regarding increased knowledge on the role of lipid disorders in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases cause the necessity of pharmacological intervention on lipid profile, besides the modification of behavioral factors. More and more restricted guidelines of medical associations related to the targets of hypolipidemic therapy influence the usage of higher doses of lipid-lowering drugs. It increases the risk of side and adverse effects. This article is a short revue of side and adverse effects of hypolipidemic agents, actually present on Polish medical market, such as statins, fibrates, ion-exchange resins and niacin. It briefly summarizes the rules of combined therapy with those drugs.
