Dear Readers,
The National Conference “A post-COVID patient. What stays the same, what changes?” (Ogólnopolska Konferencja „Pacjent post-COVID-owy. Co zostaje, a co się zmienia?”), being organized by the National Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Institute under the patronage of the Reumatologia scientific journal, is an attempt to hold a discussion among specialists from different fields of medicine on the practical knowledge gained during the fight with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Throughout the last several months Reumatologia has published more than a dozen articles concerning different aspects of COVID-19 infection analyzed by rheumatologists, immunologists, pediatricians, vaccinologists and psychiatry. Those articles are still relevant today and are a good starting point for a discussion on which part of our medical practice is still valid and where it needs to change. For scientists and philosophers the ongoing pandemic is a unique experience, encouraging further research into and analysis of both the fight with the virus itself and somatic, as well as psychological, effects of undergoing such an infection. The pandemic proved a potent challenge for all the healthcare systems, and its impact on them will be scrutinized for years to come.
To let the participants of the conference get acquainted with the content of the articles on COVID-19 published in Reumatologia, we present the collection of such works published by our journal since the beginning of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Their authors come from different parts of the world and represent many different medical specialties, but all the articles take into consideration problems of patients suffering from rheumatic diseases.
We hope that these materials will be a useful and interesting supplement to the conference itself.
The publication of this supplemental issue has been financed by the “Perfect science” programme (program “Doskonała nauka”) of the Polish Minister of Education and Science, programme number DNK/SP/522763/2021.
