Hypoglycemic treatment after myocardial infarction

Ischaemic heart disease is the most frequent cardiovascular complication in type 2 diabetics and the main cause of death in this group. Patients with diabetes mellitus who underwent acute myocardial infarction have unfavourable prognosis. This suggests the need of special care and treatment of this group of patients. Hypoglycaemic therapy is the key element of the treatment of the diabetic patients after myocardial infarction. The authors of this article try to answer how type 2 diabetic patients should be treated during and after myocardial infarction.
