Chronic kidney disease in pregnancy provides a clinical challenge for nephrologists and obstetricians tasked with managing the reciprocal effects of pregnancy on renal disease, and of underlying pre-existing renal diseases on pregnancy outcomes. In order to assess these women it is necessary to appreciate the changes in renal physiology and function that occur in normal pregnancy.
