Brian Donley, MD

Brian Donley, M.D., was appointed CEO of Cleveland Clinic London on 5th February 2018. As CEO of Cleveland Clinic London, Dr. Donley will direct strategy and operations, guide recruitment, and lead the opening of the new 205-bed private healthcare facility at 33 Grosvenor Place in central London.
Since joining Cleveland Clinic as an orthopedic surgeon in 1996, Dr. Donley has held numerous leadership positions within the Cleveland Clinic health system.

In 2008, Dr. Donley established and chaired the Cleveland Clinic’s Professional Conduct Committee, a role he held until August 2013. He served as President of Lutheran Hospital from January 2012 to October 2013. Dr. Donley then served as Chief, Regional Hospitals Medical Affairs and Quality and as Vice President of the Regional Hospitals. From January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014, he served as President of the Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers. On January 1, 2015, Dr. Donley began his role as Chief of Staff and Chief of Clinical Operations for the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

He is also a professor of surgery in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and has been part of an orthopaedic consultants’ team for the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the National Hockey League Players’ Association.

Dr. Donley graduated from the University of Notre Dame, and completed his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. This was followed by a fellowship in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN.



Nizar Zein, MD

Dr Zein is the Chief of Hepatology and the inaugural endowed holder of the Mikati Foundation Chair in Liver Diseases. He received several awards, including the American Liver Foundation Scholar Award, the Cleveland Clinic Innovator Award and the Distinguished Faculty Award for Research Mentorship.

He has been recognized for academic excellence by the Syrian American Medical Society and honored for his leadership and community service by the Ana G. Mendez University of Puerto Rico as the recipient of Presidential Medal in 2011. He was elected to the Board of Governors of the Cleveland Clinic in 2015.
Dr Zein’s research focuses on improving disease and treatment outcome in patients with the Hepatitis C virus before and after liver transplantation. He has authored over 200 publications, and has been the Principal Investigator of several large clinical trials. He holds several patents and established a research group at Cleveland Clinic focused on 3D printing of solid organs.

Dr. Zein is actively involved in the education of fellows and residents being trained at the Cleveland Clinic. He has been recognized by the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine Teacher of the Year, a distinction that reflects his commitment to the education and mentorship of young physicians. Dr Zein has served as the Editor of “The Year in Gastroenterology and Hepatology” associate editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Special Section Editor of “Liver Transplantation” and an editorial board member of Hepatology and Gastroenterology & Hepatology.



Tomasz Grodzicki, PhD

Tomasz Grodzicki, PhD (hab.), MD, currently holds the position of Jagiellonian University Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum. Between 2008 and 2016, he was Dean of the JUMC Faculty of Medicine. He is Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Gerontology, JUMC Faculty of Medicine; and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital in Cracow.

In the years 2002 to 2014, Prof. Grodzicki was the National Consultant for Geriatrics, and in 2006–2008 he held the function of President of the Executive Board of the Polish Society of Hypertension. He is a member of a number of professional organisations including the Minister of Health's Scientific Council, Clinical Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Polish College of Geriatricians, Academic Board European Geriatric Medicine Society, and MATIO Foundation Council. He is also a Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Learning.

Prof. Grodzicki's scientific activity is focused on topics in the fields of arterial hypertension and geriatrics. He has co-authored approximately 200 publications in the areas of hypertension, geriatrics and cardiology, including more than ten textbooks. He was one of the originators of epidemiological studies investigating the health condition of the elderly population (POL-STU, POLSENIOR-1, POLSENIOR-2), and the problems of neglect and self-neglect in the elderly. He was involved in the international projects SPRINTT and FRAILTOOLS, where he studied the frailty syndrome.

Prof. Grodzicki has co-developed the Polish and international guidelines for the treatment of hypertension, palliative care in heart failure, renal failure in the elderly, and the European Commission's Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (SAPEA). He was an organiser of the European Conference on Rare Diseases 2010 in Cracow, and a co-originator of the Centre for Rare Diseases at the University Hospital in Cracow.

Prof. Grodzicki has received a number of awards, including a prize awarded by the Polish Society of Hypertension, Tadeusz Browicz Award of the Polish Academy of Learning, Jędrzej Śniadecki Research Team Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences, "Plus ratio quam vis" medal of the Jagiellonian University, and the Golden Cross of Merit in recognition of supporting Universities of the Third Age. In 2019, he was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa by Wrocław Medical University.

Prof. Tomasz Grodzicki was featured in the 2018 List of 100 Most Influential People in Polish Medicine, where he was ranked in the 62nd place.




James F. Gutierrez, MD

James F. Gutierrez, MD is the Chief of Quality, Safety and Patient Experience at Cleveland Clinic London. He has more than 22 years’ experience with Cleveland Clinic, serving as a leader in quality improvement in regional medical practice and internal medicine. In 2007, Dr Gutierrez was named Chair of the Department of Community Internal Medicine, and in 2015 he was appointed President and Medical Director of Cleveland Clinic’s Medicare Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Under his leadership, the ACO achieved outstanding performance in quality outcomes and patient experience, becoming one of the highest performing in the United States.




Semih Sens

Cleveland Clinic has named Semih Sen, a healthcare entrepreneur with more than two decades-worth of international healthcare investment and development experience, to its newly created position of Chief Business Development Officer, effective July 1.

In this role, Sen, a native of Turkey, will identify, assess, and realize new business opportunities; create and implement key strategies for market differentiation; develop plans for new growth initiatives, build strategic partnerships and alliances; and drive diversified revenue growth through joint ventures and commercialization of intellectual property.

Sen will also lead Cleveland Clinic Innovations and report directly to Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., and collaborate with the executive team in building an entrepreneurial core that benefit Cleveland Clinic and its patients.

With locations in Canada, Abu Dhabi and London – as well as a strategic collaboration in Shanghai that was announced last year – Cleveland Clinic has a strong international presence.
Sen has more than 24 years of international experience in executive administration and financing with a focus on healthcare. As founding partner of Biolinka Investment Holding, Sen raised funds for investments in healthcare and life sciences companies that reached global markets with their innovations. He previously led the development of an integrated healthcare network as a Director at Mubadala Investment Company’s Healthcare Unit, which is Cleveland Clinic’s partner for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Tomasz Rogula, MD

Tomasz Rogula, MD, PhD, FACS is currently a full time professor of surgery at the Jagiellonian University I Department of Surgery, Chief of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery and Part-Time Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, United States. Prof. Rogula is a former Staff Surgeon and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic – Bariatric Metabolic Institute, a former Chief of General Surgery Devision and Co-Director of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at the University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Cleveland-Chardon, OH, USA. He was born in Poland, now US and Polish Citizen living permanently in Poland and part time in USA.

He graduated from the Jagiellonian University School of Medicine in Krakow, Poland and was trained in weight loss and general surgery Fellowships in the United States (Mount Sinai School of Medicine – New York, University of Pittsburgh, PA), Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Canada, United Kingdom and Japan. In addition to bariatric surgery, his specialty interests include advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery and hernia repair. He performed the first robotic assisted gastric bypass for obesity and initiated single incision laparoscopic bariatric surgery, cholecystectomy and hernia repair at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Rogula has done pioneering research on novel weight-loss surgery procedures. He published numerous articles and book chapters on topics of bariatric and laparoscopic surgery and is a peer reviewer for the journal of Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases and Guest Editor for Journal of Obesity and Annals of Surgical Innovation and Research. Dr Rogula initiated the Bariatric Clinical Program for Medical Students at the Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He was an invited speaker for numerous national and international surgical meetings and workshops.

He is a Fellows of American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of the American Medical Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and European Association for Endocopic Surgery and Polish Society of Surgeons. He is a co-founder of the International Club of Young Laparoscopic Surgeons and a founder and President of the International Bariatric Club – a global bariatric network organization. He was awarded for his medical innovations and holds pending patents for new surgical devices.
