Pak Cheong HO (Hong Kong)



Dr. PC Ho obtained his medical degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1987. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1996. Dr. Ho is currently the Chief of Service (Orthopaedics & Traumatology) of Prince of Wales Hospital & Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital; Chief of Service (Orthopaedic Rehabilitation) of Tai Po Hospital. He has been the Chief of the Division of Hand and Microsurgery (2007-2017), as well as the Orthopaedic Cluster Programme Training Director (2010-2017). He is appointed as Clinical Professor (honorary) of the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Hong Kong Award” in 2002 and was the President of the Hong Kong Society for Surgery of the Hand (HKSSH) in 2008-2010. He is currently the Honorary Treasurer of the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

His main research interest is on wrist arthroscopic surgery. Others include congenital hand differences, rheumatoid hand, paralytic hand reconstruction and microsurgery. He earned 3 times the best paper awards (Hodgson Award) as principle investigator at the annual congresses of the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association between 1995-1998, a record to be broken. In addition as a co-author, he attained 3 times the 2nd best paper award (Arthur Yau Award) with colleagues between 2007-2010. He and his team also won 10 times the best paper award at the annual congresses of the HKSSH between 1998 -2017. He is a member of International Wrist Investigator Workshop since 1999, committee member of European Wrist Arthroscopy Society (EWAS) since 2006 and has been the deputy editor of the Journal of Wrist Surgery. He was the Whipple Prize winner in 2012 for recognition of his distinguished and pioneering contribution in wrist arthroscopic surgery worldwide. In 2015 he was elected as the President of the EWAS (2015-2016). In the same year he found the Asia Pacific Wrist Association (APWA) together with many experts in the region and was elected as the founding President (2015-2017).

His academic honors included: Overseas Visiting Expert in Orthopaedic Surgery to Singapore in 2012, Moberg Lecturer at the 24th Scandinavian Hand Society Meeting in 2012, Robert A. Chase Visiting Professor to the Stanford University in 2014, Joshi Oration for the Indian Hand Surgery Society in 2015, Invited Lecturer to the 88th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association in 2015, Honored Professor to the Philadelphia Hand Rehabilitation Foundation in 2017, Plenary Speaker of 11th APFSSH Congress 2017 in Cebu and as the keynote speaker in numerous national hand surgery societies including Singapore, Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Argentina, USA, France, Romania and Germany since 2002. He has made 104 publications, conducted 95 cadaveric courses, and delivered 119 local & 454 international lectures in 83 cities of 34 countries worldwide.
