In this paper work currently existing criteria of metabolic syndrome have been presented based on findings of International Diabetes Federation from the year 2005. The epidemiology of metabolic syndrome has been characterized as well as date deriving from national polish study – WOBASZ. Strategy of treatment people with metabolic syndrome has been discussed concentrating on the importance of comprehensive treatment of all its components. The importance of nonpharmacological therapy in body mass reduction has been emphasized. Moreover the possibilities of pharmacological therapy of hypertension, hypoglycaemia and lipid disorders have been introduced in this paper work.
