Chronic urticaria (CU) and chronic angio-oedema are common skin disorders and have a profound impact on the quality of life (QoL). The aim of the treatment of CU is, above all, the improvement of QoL. During recent years we can observe strong growth of interest in research associated with QoL in chronic diseases, but only a few articles are available about the impact of chronic urticaria on the quality of life of patients. The available studies show that patients with chronic urticaria have significantly greater quality of life impairment than patients with respiratory allergy, comparable to patients with coronary artery diseases. In this review definitions and measurement methods of QoL are introduced. Disease-specific, dermatology-specific, general health and utility measure questionnaires are described. The paper summarizes the available medical articles in which CU impact of QoL are described.
