Purpose of the study was to determine serologic or genetic markers of parvovirus B19 infection (PV-B19) in women during first trimester of pregnancy and to observe the course of infection and its influence on fetus.

IgM and IgG antibodies against PV-B19 were determined with immunoenzimatic method (BIOMEDICA). The PV-B19 DNA was detected with PCR method and obtained DNA was analyzed with Digene Sharp Signal system.
Our studies shown that abortion frequency in women with PV-B19 infection is 27%, most of them occurred during first trimester of pregnancy. Parvovirus infection in observed pregnant women was in most cases asymptomatic, therefore it may be helpful to diagnose patients towards PV-B19 infection during pregnancy.
