In the article insulin therapy in type 2 diabetics is described. Every case of badly controlled diabetes type 2 should be individually assessed. It is necessary to confirm the presence of hyperglycaemia at least a few times. Insulin therapy should be considered in type 2 diabetics with a level of glycated haemoglobin HbA1c over 7% ineffectively treated with oral hypoglycaemic agents, provided that potentially removable causes of hyperglycaemia are absent. The article contains the indications for permanent and periodic insulin therapy. Attention was paid to the fears of patients related to insulin therapy. Usually the fears are psycho-emotional in character. The algorithms of conventional and intensive insulin therapy are discussed in detail.
