Diabetes mellitus is the most important risk factor of coronary artery disease. Coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction are diagnosed more frequently in diabetic patients. Diabetes mellitus is diagnosed in most patients at late, advanced stages of disease when severe complications are developed. Frequently this happens during hospitalization because of myocardial infarction. We present a history of a 51-year-old patient with acute inferior myocardial infarction and diabetes mellitus which has been diagnosed recently. The present patient, who was unaware of dietary defect, has been drinking a lot of sweet non-alcoholic beverages for many years.
