Ageing of societies cansces an increase in requirements for long-term services for the elderly. Long-term care designates help and services for chronically ill or functionally impaired persons, including frail elderly, provided for an indeterminate period of time. The article reviews different forms and settings of the long-term care for the dependent elderly, focusing on family caregivers. The review of accessible services in Poland was done to familiarize readers with the variety of services and modes of payment for better information flow towards family carers. A European policy aim is to enable elderly people to remain at home as long as possible.
