Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, which is often accompanied by lipid metabolism disorders related to an increased risk of sclerosis development. The study aimed at assessing concentrations of selected lipid profile indices, oxidation markers and the efficiency of antioxidant defence in psoriatic patients with different intensification of pathological lesions before and after phototherapy treatment. On the basis of calculated PASI score the patients were divided into two 30-person groups: PASI 1 (from 5.4 to 22.1, mean 15.2±4.9), and PASI 2 (from 22.5 to 49.20, mean 30.3±5.8). All patients underwent 10 therapies using one of three phototherapy methods (UVA, UVB, UVB 311 nm). The analysis of acquired data showed the proatherogenic nature of lipid profile in psoriatic patients with a more severe course of disease. Increased skin manifestations of psoriasis are accompanied by an increase of dyslipidaemia and oxidation processes. However, the lesions are not visibly modified by phototherapy, which allows one to conclude that phototherapy treatment of 10 cycles is safe, and it does not increase sclerosis risk in psoriatic patients.
