Introduction: Efficacy of long wave UVA-1 phototherapy was established by studies from various counties of the European Union.
Aim: To present an evaluation of our experience with narrow band UVA-1 phototherapy, being the first Polish data concerning selected skin diseases.
Material and methods: We investigated a group of 33 patients treated with UVA-1 phototherapy in the Department of Dermatology, Poznan University of Medical Sciences.
Results: Good therapeutic effects were observed in patient groups with atopic dermatitis, disseminated morphea and other rare sclerosing skin diseases, e.g. eosinophilic fasciitis and chronic sclerodermoid graft-vs.-host disease as well as in granuloma annulare patients. Slight improvement was noted in singular cases of urticaria pigmentosa, Netherton syndrome and Sezary syndrome. No therapeutic effect after treatment was observed in patients with psoriasis and prurigo nodularis.
Conclusions: UVA-1 phototherapy may be considered as a safe therapeutic option for various skin conditions but further multicentre and comparative studies are necessary.
