Sexual dysfunction related to the sexual response cycle is a common problem in the general population. The causes of sexual dysfunction can be varied and complex, and so can be their treatment. The condition of normal sexual function is the lack of pathologies in the structure and functioning of the nervous system related to the sexual reaction and in the genital organs, proper gonadal function with the correct concentration of estrogens, progesterone and testosterone, and the absence of somatic, psychological and psychiatric disorders that may interfere with sexual functions, or, as in the case of medical problems, the use of drugs with side effects in the form of sexual dysfunction. Various strategies are possible in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy/hormone therapy, modification of pharmacological treatment causing adverse effects of sexual dysfunction, or surgical methods. The authors reviewed clinical trials for data on pharmacological treatment of desire dysfunction. In the aspect of pharmacological treatment of libido dysfunction, most studies are in the form of case reports, case series and studies conducted on small groups of people. Pharmacological treatment of libido dysfunction should be reserved for the treatment of primary sexual dysfunction or the adjunctive therapy of psychogenic and somatogenic dysfunction. Treatment in each case requires personalization, and in the event of no improvement, subsequent attempts using available data from clinical publications.
