Formal relations between general practitioners and patients rely on rules of medical law. The general principle of the patient’s autonomy is the legal basis. This is the reason for the duty to obtain the patient’s informed consent for each medical procedure. Conditions of informed consent are full information about state of health and observance of due form. In general practitioner practice verbal consent is most popular. Proper diligence is necessary in cases of minors, extension of the diagnostic procedures, and medical operations. A condition for the general practitioner’s legal safety is correct interpersonal communication with the patient.
