Confronting perimenopausal women’s knowledge of coronary heart disease with their health behaviours. Controversial role of hormone replacement therapy in the protection of coronary heart disease

Introduction

The diagnosis and the treatment of child’s leukaemia are the great challenge for marital relationships of her/his parents. Parental resilience and style of coping with stress re related with the quality of their marital relationships.

The aim of the study

To analyse the connections of spouses’ resilience and style of coping with stress with their estimation of own marital relationships.

Material and methods

46 mothers and 40 fathers of children with leukaemia were examined. They filled 3 questionnaires: Resilience Scale (SPP-25 – for independent variable), CISS (for independent variable) and Scale of Marital Relationships (for dependent variable).

Results and conclusions

The examined women and men evaluate their marital relationships on the same way. Spouses’ resilience positively correlates with their marital relationships, especially their persistence and determination of activity. Their sincerity, humor and taking life as the challenge increase spouses’ cooperation and appreciation. The level of spouses’ resilience increases marital affection. This kind of style of coping with stress increases marital affection. The quality of marital relationships of parents of children with leukaemia influences the quality of parental caregiving of ill children.
