The main objective of the research was to apply the attachment theory to establish the importance of psychological predictors like emotional control and dispositional optimism, of the mental adjustment to cancer, in a group 128 women suffering from breast cancer. The following questionnaires were used: Relationship Questionnaire – RQ, Mental Adjustment to Cancer – MAC, Courtauld Emotional Control Scale, Life Orientation Test – LOT-R. Statistically, women with higher level of dispositional optimism, show lower level of strategy “anxious preoccupation” and higher level of strategy “positive reframing”. In a group of women with fearful attachment, the higher level of control of expression of anxious is, the more probably is activating of strategy “anxious preoccupation”, and the lower level of control of expression of depression is, the more probably is activating of strategies “fighting spirit” and “positive reframing”. It is positive to women fearful attached to strength positive beliefs, which in result make physiological stress lower. Preoccupied attachment with lower level of control of emotional expression makes more probably activating of strategy anxious preoccupation and helpless-hopeless and less probably activating of strategy “positive reframing”.
