The first reports about diabetes were described in the Ebers papyrus in about 1550 BC. Over the millennia until today, a specific causative factor of pathogenesis of this disease has been sought. It is known that type 1 diabetes is a chronic, autoimmunological disorder and genetic and environmental factors are responsible for development of type 1 diabetes. However, the initial factor is still unknown.
