Percutaneous coronary interventions in patients with coronary artery disease are a common procedure, but they still present complications. These complications may result from the procedure itself, medications administered before, during or after the procedure, contrast medium or ionising radiation. Remote results of invasive treatment in this group of patients not only depend on the angiographic effect of the procedure but also on long-lasting intensive treatment of chronic hyperglycaemia and remaining risk factors of coronary artery disease.
