Acute coronary syndromes (ACSs) are the most serious complication among patients suffering from the ischemic heart disease. In Poland, there are about 140 thousand of patients, who are hospitalized due to ACSs every year. The multicenter registers report that the prevalence of disturbances of glucose metabolism among patients suffering from ACSs reach 30%. The crucial moment in the treatment of ACS was the development of the invasive methods of ACSs treatment, which significantly reduced the mortality of patients with ischemic heart disease and made the prognosis better. However, this norm doesn’t concern patients with DM, among whom the treatment results are definitely worse. Therefore, complex treatment of patients with ACSs and DM allows for modern invasive procedures supported with aggressive antiplatelet therapy. Effective treatment of disturbances of glucose metabolism before, during and after the hospitalization due to ACSs is of paramount importance in the improvement of the prognosis of patients with DM. This paper presents the latest data and our experience concerning the course of the ACSs among patients with diagnosed disturbances of glucose metabolism.
