One of the most important unfavorable cardiovascular incidents risk factor among diabetic patients are lipid disorders. Dyslipidemia in diabetes mellitus comprises of tree abnormalities: hypertriglicerydemia, low level of HDL-cholesterol and the presence of abnormal small LDL particles. According to European and American Medical Associates statin therapy is recommended in all diabetic patients. The influence on all risk factors, which increase the frequency of cardiovascular events seems to be essential step on the way to successful prevention of atherosclerosis. Besides lowering the LDL cholesterol level, statins modulate the inflammatory process and improve the endothelial vascular function. Statins are the main group of pharmacological agents in the therapy of dyslipidemia. The efficacy and safety of statins therapy are well documented. The risk of serious adverse effects is related to presence of agents adherent to myopathy and simultaneous therapy with agents interfering with metabolism of these medicaments.
