Immunohistochemical stain is a golden standard of both modern routine diagnostics and scientific study of pathological changes in all bodily organs, including tissues of head and neck. This review presents the most commonly used immunohistochemical scoring systems applied in diagnostics, the microarray and macroarray technology and in scientific studies. The paper stresses also the significance of cooperation between pathologist and surgeon in terms of securing and assessment of tissue material for routine diagnostics and scientific study.
