Involuntary movements may be a consequence of stroke associated with both infarcts and cerebral haemorrhage. They can occur immediately after the brain lesion or after a long period (days, weeks, months). The most common are chorea, dystonia, tremor and parkinsonism. Ballism, blepharospasm and asterixis have rarely been reported.
