Objectives: This research has been carried out to present the models of sexual education achieved by the female residents of Łodz and the sources of their information on the subject of family planning. The urge for such studies is due to increase in sexually transmitted diseases, the number of unplanned teenage pregnancies and infertility.
Design: The authorial questionnaire, which deals mainly with sexual education and family planning issues, was prepared and the survey conducted on women patients of certain health care centres in Łódź.
Material and methods: 400 voluntarily and anonymously completed questionnaires have been analysed using SPSS program. Any corelation found has been validated using c2 test.
Results: All the women declare they need to be educated on modern contraceptive methods, but those ones who were given pro-life education are even more willing, whether religious or not. A mere 3% of the respondents believe that only school should be responsible for sexual education. 1.5% think the church should also be involved in this process. The main sources of information about family planning are: books, doctors, newspapers and magazines or family. School is not involved much.

Conclusions:

1. There is a need for permissive sexual education in schools.

2. As family is inefficient at transmitting sex-related information to the younger genaration, education should be aimed at both youngsters and adults.

3. The respondents know more and more about family planning methods from competent sources.

4. More attention should be paid to the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
