W przypadku chorób reumatoidalnych do ustalenia stanu zaawansowania choroby oraz oceny skuteczności leczenia konieczne jest ciągłe monitorowanie. Do tego celu służy ocena aktywności choroby, stopnia uszkodzenia stawów i stopnia utraty funkcji narządu ruchu. W pracy przedstawiono klasyfikacje aktywności choroby wg DAS, DAS28, Ritchiego i Lansbury’ego, stopnie uszkodzenia stawów w skali Steinbrockera, Larsena-Dale’a i Sharpa oraz utratę funkcji wg Steinbrockera i kwestionariusza HAQ.
