Pruritis in pregnancy — etiology, prevention and skin care

Pruritus is an important sign of localized or systemic disease occurring in 18% of pregnancies. Pregnancy -specific dermatological diseases
are accompanied by severe itching and scratching. Management depends on the underlying aetiology of pruritus. Emollients, topical antipruritics
and topical corticosteroids are the safest options for pruritus in pregnancy. Systemic corticosteroids and a restricted number of antihistamines may be also administered in severe cases.
