The influence of religiosity on life satisfaction

Introduction
Religiosity can be associated with mental well-being as a result of treating unfavorable life events as an opportunity for personal and spiritual development.

The aim of the study
To assess the correlation between life satisfaction and the level of religiosity.

Material and methods
The study involved 790 people and the method of a diagnostic survey using an original questionnaire, the Santa Clara Power Survival Questionnaire, and the Standardised Satisfaction with Life Scale.

Results
As many as 3/4 of the surveyed declared themselves as believers and practitioners, and 60.1% as believers and those who abiding the principles of faith. The average values of the Power of Religious Beliefs were 39.5 points, and the average level of satisfaction with life was 22.8. The average value of SWLS in the group of 18-24-year-olds was 24 points, and in the remaining age groups it was – 22.4, 22.3 i 22 points. In the younger age groups, there were no statistically significant relationships between the level of religiosity and life satisfaction, while starting from the 50-year-old age group, there was a statistically significant correlation between the two factors (R < 0.30).

Conclusions
The majority of the surveyed people assessed their religiosity high or very high and were somewhat satisfied with life. Generally, with age, the level of satisfaction showed a downward trend. In the age group 50-70 years and aged 71 years and above, life satisfaction increased with increasing religiousness.
