Viral hepatitis is one of the most important infectious diseases worldwide. Whereas hepatitis B, C and D are transmitted by the parenteral route, hepatitis A and E are transmitted faecal-orally. The clinical symptoms of acute viral hepatitis among the five viruses are similar and include non-specific symptoms and icterus
