The scope of disease prevention and health promotion in the work of the pediatric nurse and expectations parents of hospitalized newborn. Part II

Introduction. Promoting pro-health and preventive behaviors towards the child and his parents is connected with performing professional
tasks by the nurse and cooperating in the therapeutic team. The realization of professional functions concerning promotional-preventive
action demands the ability of taking of professional independent decisions concerning the health of the child and the education him of the
pediatric nurse of parents.

Aim of the study. Getting to know expectations of parents of hospitalized newborn babies towards the pediatric nurse in the realization of
the preventive function and the promotion of health.

Material and methods. In the group of 115 parents of newborn babies hospitalized at two research hospitals in Lublin in 2007 and 2008 was
conducted diagnostic survey based on the questionnaire form of the questionnaire form, concerning getting to know their opinion about
expectations in the realization by the nurse of the preventive function and the promotion of health.

Results. Straight majority of examined parents (85%) admitted, that their child time of the hospitalization it was treated in a kindly manner,
with providing with the sense of security and the personal touch, and nurses provided parents with the exhaustive information about the
care and the nursing of the child. Large percentage examined (74%) he thinks that nurses are obeying principles of the asepsis and the
antisepsis on branches, they apply protective gloves during activities performed by the child, they are washing hands after the contact with
the child, distributions of children are abiding by the rules in rooms according to a disease entity. Meaning majority examined (36%) was
encouraged by nurses for the inspection own healthy, of a well-balanced diet, the appropriate amount of the dream and the active leisure.

Conclusions. In the preventive function examined parents are waiting for preparing for proceedings the appearance preventing or reducing
the risk of illness and complications at the child. However their within the scope of the function of promoting the health of advising
beneficial conditions for the development of the child in matters and a favorable lifestyle for health.
