Eagle’s syndrome is characterized by
morphological abnormalities of the styloid process or calcifications
of the stylohyoid ligament, leading to irritation of the
glossopharyngeal nerve. This paper presents the case of a 61-year-old
patient with episodic, severe throat pain radiating to the ear. After
a lack of improvement with pharmacological treatment and
confirmation of an elongated styloid process measuring 36 mm based on
computed tomography, the patient was qualified for surgical
intervention. Bilateral tonsillectomy and styloidectomy were
performed, resulting in complete resolution of symptoms. During
postoperative follow-ups, the patient reported no discomfort or need
for further medication. Analyzing this case, it can be concluded that
effective treatment of Eagle’s syndrome often requires a tailored
therapeutic approach and consideration of surgical treatment options.
Computed tomography plays a crucial role in assessing the length
of the styloid process and in planning therapeutic interventions.
