Introduction. The Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) project was created to assess the ten-year risk of death caused by disorders
of the cardiovascular system of the European population and to begin prophylaxis proportionate to the recognized risk. High risk of death
corresponds to the value of index SCORE equal to or higher than 5.

Aim. The aim of the research was diagnosing people whose value of index SCORE was higher than or equal to 5 and assessing the average
value of SCORE of the examined persons.

Material and methods. The method of analyzing documents from “The program of prevention and early diagnosis of the cardiovascular
diseases” was used in the following work, directed to general practitioners by the National Health Found in Białystok.
The data obtained through prophylactic tests of 432 program participants, aged 35–55, was analyzed. The level of significance applied to all
statistical hypotheses was 0.05. Statistical analysis was carried out using the statistical package Statistica 6.0 produced by StatSoft.

Results and conclusions:

1. The value of index SCORE equal to or higher than 5 was detected in 3% of the examined persons, all male, aged 45–55.

2. The index SCORE reached the value equal to or higher than 5 much more often in people living in the country.

3. The value of index SCORE was lower in persons with higher education.
