Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease of unknown aetiology, characterised by excessive fibrosis and microvascular abnormalities in the skin and many internal organs. In this article we present data about the role of disturbances of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in the pathogenesis of SSc.
