Objectives:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of treatment with a vaginal tablet containing natural micronized progesterone in patients with endometrial hyperplasia.
Material and methods:
Forty one patients with endometrial hyperplasia were enrolled in this trial; 38 patients have been presented simple hyperplasia, 3 complex hyperplasia. All patients were treated with vaginal tablets containing micronized progesterone 2 x 100 mg/day for 3 months. During first month of treatment 6 patients were bleeding and were excluded from the study. 35 patients finished treatment.
Results:
We observed a total of 33 complete regressions (94%). Recurrence of simple hyperplasia occurred in 1 patient (3%), and in 1 patient (3%) we noticed progresion from simple to complex hyperplasia. 7 patients (17%) had irregular spotting, 4 (9,8%) had vaginal discomfort.
Conclusions:
Vaginal administration of natural micronized progesterone seems to be effective and safe therapy of benign endometrial hyperplasia, particularly indicated in women also affected by metabolic disorders.
