Introduction: Over the past 20 years, the amount of scientific research on the relationship between spirituality and health has increased significantly in international literature.

Objective: The purpose of this article is to review studies that assessed whether high spirituality or religiousness of patients has an impact on life expectancy and overall mortality.

Materials and methods: The scoping study method was used to select studies available in popular online databases, conference folders, newsletters, books, and other sources.

Results and conclusions: All analyzed studies show that higher spirituality or religiosity is positively correlated with all-cause mortality. Lifespan of people who attend religious services may be up to 8 years longer than those who do not.
