Male breast cancer (MBC) is a rare medical condition, accounting for only 0.5% among all cases of breast cancer and 0.2% of all malignant neoplasms among men. Due to its rare occurrence, the studies concerning MBC comprise few affected patients and the number of individual case reports is limited. For this reason there are no gender-specific therapeutic standards for men and guidelines in MBC are not different from the pattern of action in this disease in women. Therefore, there is a need for detailed documentation of sporadically occurring cases of MBC to identify gender-specific aspects in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. The authors present a case report of a 75-year-old patient with advanced breast cancer, along with an analysis of literature elaborating current methods for the detection, diagnostics, and treatment of male breast cancer.
