Pain in the spine professional group of nurses and midwives

Background : Most jobs require activities related to being moved and the transportation of certain items. This in turn leads to growing congestion and pain of movement. A group of extremely burdened with such a threat is a nurse and midwives.

Aim of the study : Statistics traced back pain among nurses and midwives and to highlight the extent of the problem.

Material and methods : The study was conducted in a 200-person, randomly selected group of Malopolska hospital wards, the profile of surgical and conservative management. Participated in the study only nurses and midwives. The study was conducted using a diagnostic survey. The questionnaire consists of 25 questions of varying design. Pain was measured using Visual-Analogue Scale (VAS). The results obtained have been considered in terms of quantity.

Results : The occurrence of pain reported 92.9% of respondents reporting an average age of chronic ailments (38.4) was surprisingly low. Most respondents reported a link between illnesses and overload the musculoskeletal system during the call. The level of symptoms and their frequency clearly correlated with the need to use sick leave and the deterioration of comfort, which will definitely translate into the quality of services provided. Mostly related to pain of the lumbar spine. In examining the activities that caused the most discomfort, it was found that it is bending, lifting and state. The study also attempted to determine the extent to which working conditions affect the comfort of their operations and assesses the level of knowledge about ergonomics.

Conclusions:

1. The study revealed that a group of professional nurses and midwives are particularly vulnerable to dysfunction of the spine as a result of overload.

2. The level of knowledge about the prevention of back pain in this group is inadequate.

3. Please pay close attention to the need for ergonomics in the health sector and provide a wide range of broader prevention.
