Parenteral nutrition in palliative home care. Description of the case

The decision to implement parenteral nutrition in incurable patients who are not eligible for enteral nutrition is difficult from the point of view of ethics. The paper describes a case of a patient aged 54, with multilevel obstruction gastrointestinal tract because of carcinoma duct Wolff of uterine ligaments. After several conversations with the patient and her family, parenteral nutrition was used and was continued three months. An improvement of quality of life and opportunity to participate in a long-awaited event- only son's wedding were achieved.
