Complications are common and inseparable consequences of the oncological treatment. Radiation therapy causes specific adverse effects that are not very well known in other medical specialities.
Nevertheless, radiotherapy has an important and substantial place in anticancer fight. This paper presents several, different, and most common kinds of undesirable effects often seen in the daily practice of radiation oncology. Among, better known radiation sequelae classification systems, LENT SOMA was mentioned. It’is one of the modern systems, which allows more accurate comparative investigations on data from different institutions. This paper is a background and introduction to the second part, where methods of prevention and avoiding of undesirable effects will be discussed.
