Amputation surgery consists in cutting off the whole organ or a part of it. A growing number of lower limb amputations is reported, particular in elderly people. Currently the majority of the procedures are performed due to complications of an occlusive arterial disease (90%), while the remainder (10%) comprise amputations for other indications such as injuries, neoplastic tumours or developmental malformations. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the goals in postoperative care in lower limb amputees. The main studied issues were: nursing care, and rehabilitation of amputees.
